#1 Bolder and brighter colours

Neutrals are out; bolder colours are in! In 2023, we’ll see an increase in the use of saturated hues, metallic paints, and rich earth tones throughout the home — from walls to fabrics to accessories. After a prolonged love affair with cool greys, whites, and neutrals (no more white kitchen black benchtop obsession; adios dark benchtop kitchen!), colour is coming back to interiors.

This means more warmer hues, creamy shades of yellow, and splashes of colour with eclectic palettes: think 70s Hollywood glitz!

#2 Smart technology

There was a great uptake in smart technology into our kitchens and homes. Fast forward to 2023, we can expect to see a more aggressive integration of this into home renovations: more kitchen power points built-in to the benchtop, smarter storage solutions, appliances that utilise apps on smartphones, hidden refrigerators, and – get this – soda water straight from smart mixer taps!

It seems likely that outdoor kitchens will continue to be a popular trend in home renovations in 2023 and the years to come. Curves naturally induce a sense of comfort and ease in our brains. With most homeowners having to deal with rising costs of living due to inflation, many would want to be able to feel calm in their own homes. That is why 2023 will be a year of softening sharp edges and lines and curved cabinets and islands.

Arches have the power to invoke a sense of fluidity, calmness, grace, and spaciousness. You might just want them in hallways, doors, and showers!

#5 Return to nature

If you are biophilic (someone who loves nature), then 2023 is definitely your year! Get your plant crazy on as natural elements are going to be trendy. Flesh out your timber kitchen ideas and browse over materials that are closer to their natural state.

Preference for design that promotes health and mental well-being is growing. Indoor plants could become everyone’s best friend next year. Think tranquil country getaway, with more flora and patina.

Statement lighting will be a major trend, and more homeowners will treat lighting as art. There will likely be a spike of interest in light sculptures, art pieces with a lighting fixture, and more elaborate pendant lights to add flair and texture into our homes.
